We are excited to plant trees next week with 6th graders of Greenfield Hebrew Academy. We will be planting 7 t0 8 native trees at Brook Run Park in Dunwoody on Wednesday afternoon. The trees were selected by the students.

We had an unbelievable time planting trees in SC last October! After 2 days of hard work by volunteers, Habitat for Humanity residents and staff and E's Trees members, over 60 native live oak trees were planted. Follow the link to the pictures of the 2 projects! The neighborhoods were intantaneously transformed.

Since then we have planned two fundraisers and cancelled one due to icy roads in Atlanta. We are working out a date to reschedule in the spring or early summer.

We are now looking at other projects, some in Atlanta and some in New Orleans.

Fundraising news from the office -

OK. We are seriously fundraising to be able to purchase and plant the requisite trees for the Coopers Point and the Sea Island projects in South Carolina. If 200 people contribute just $25.00 each, we will meet our budget for these two projects, so keep those donations coming in!

Please donate now for the October 24 project! Remember that we are not planting tiny seedlings. We are planting larger community trees so that the homeowners can quickly enjoy the benefits of having community trees in their neighborhood.

And a great big thanks to those who have already donated.

This is going to be an exciting and fun day, so plan to join us for this event!

An update from the office

So it looks like we will be funding and planting about 33 native hardwood trees for Sea Island Habitat in South Carolina. Date is October 24, 2009. Contact us if you want to volunteer to assist with this or another project planned for same day in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina.

An update from E's Trees president, Ellie Joseph:

Jeff set up a meeting for us so I went to Charleston a few weeks ago and met with Greg Thomas and Tamara Avery to talk about E's Trees helping to plant trees in the Habitat communities. Pat, Terry and Casey joined us to view some of the communities. We learned a lot about Habitat projects and were impressed with the construction and planning of the homes. It is phenomenal what this program accomplishes! Result is that we will be planting trees at two projects: one in Mount Pleasant and one on Sea Island. We are cranking up fundraising efforts and are very excited to get our (2) inaugural projects in the ground. It looks like October 24 is our estimated planting date, subject to agreement from the Mount Pleasant project.

We are also beginning to get our marketplace sorted out. Ordering items for sale and for handout at projects. We should have that up and running in the next few weeks.

Karen met with Marietta wine shop and they will host a fundraiser for us on November 7. I met with Anne Irwin (of Anne Irwin Fine Art) and she will host a fundraiser on January 7, 2010. So here we go, up and running and lots of activity!

If you look to the right, you'll see the most exciting news we've had yet: we are now accepting online donations.

To donate, simply click on the "Donate" button. You will be redirected to a secure PayPal website, where you can use any major credit card to donate any amount you'd like. No donation is too small! You do not need a PayPal account to donate -- when redirected, look to the bottom left of the PayPal page, for the bold text that says, "Don't have a PayPal account?"

Once we've received your information, we will send you an official donation letter, which can be used as a record for your tax returns. All donations are tax-deductible.

We're also in the process of setting up a PO box, where you will be able to send donations by check. We'll post about that as soon as we get the address.

Another busy day at E's Trees headquarters. We're still working hard on a lot of behind-the-scenes stuff. In the meantime, we wanted to post our mission statement, to give you a better idea of what we do.

Our mission is to benefit individuals and communities by:

planting and maintaining native hardwood and other trees to storm damaged communities in the United States,
enhancing the quality of depressed neighborhoods by planting and maintaining long living hardwood and other trees in the area,
working with other organizations to restore native tree habitat,
participating in research related to the usefulness of certain tree vegetation in restoring brownfields and in ameliorating other environmental damage.

E's Trees is a non-profit organization committed to the planting and maintenance of hardwood trees on public lands. We're just getting started, so this is a very exciting time for us!

We have a lot currently in the works. The preliminary designs for our website have come in, and we should get the site up and running soon. We're also working on ways to take donations from the website.

Also, we're looking for our first project! If you know of any public lands in your area that need trees, send us an email.

There will be lots more to update on in the next few weeks, so keep checking back with us.
